Dive into Teppen, a card game featuring Capcom characters and experience a CCG like no other.
Command and use a number of Capcom characters from franchises like Devil May Cry and Street Fighter!
Defeat enemies using a variety of tactics and destroy them completely with special moves and attacks.
Capcom is arguably one of today’s biggest gaming giants. After all, they’ve created iconic franchises like Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Megaman, and of course, Resident Evil. Of course, a lot of gaming companies - and Capcom themselves - want to capitalize on their characters’ fame, and it’s a surprise as to why we’re treated to Teppen, a real-time strategy card battle game where you collect and control Capcom characters. Thing is, it’s a CCG, and we know how these games are: you need to learn all the gameplay mechanics from scratch which is extremely tedious even if you’re a veteran of franchises like Yu-Gi-Oh! And Magic. Before you decide though, let’s take a look at what it has to offer:
Unlike most card games Teppen is more of a brawler and an action-based card game instead of a strategic one. You’ll need to make decisions on the fly, instead of having to fight in a deep, strategic battle. Matches are at a maximum of five minutes long which is fast enough and clearly suits the mobile platform. Thing is, the goal is rather straightforward: all you have to do is to have more HP than your opponent when the timer hits zero or you have to completely obliterate your opponent’s hit points from 30 to zero.
Teppen is an ambitious crossover than merges the world, protagonists, and antagonists of various Capcom franchises. It’s extremely important to pay attention to the characters considering they play a role in deck-building. Each deck lets you assign a special character that can unleash a special skill that can turn the tide of battle. For example, Wesker and Ryu can decimate enemy cards, enabling you to attack your enemy’s hitpoints directly. The story isn’t something that would warrant a literary award, but it’s told through well-drawn cutscenes. Plus, it’s interesting to see someone like Ryu interact and do battle with Rathalos, one of the iconic dragons in the Monster Hunter franchise.
Teppen’s gameplay revolves around using the right cards quickly, depending on the situation at hand. With that said, you can deploy a maximum of three cards, and the actions you take depend on the mana counter that automatically recharges on the bottom of the screen. Note that each card - both character and action cards - can have individual mana requirements. Every character card has an attack and armor attribute, with the latter acting as HP. Cards attack periodically, and you can see the attack progress through lines that travel across the screen. Once the card runs out of armor/HP, it will get destroyed and you’ll be required to deploy new cards. All in all, there are hundreds of cards in Teppen, and it would be smart to create your own deck and use cards that fully complement each other.
In terms of presentation, Teppen is absolutely amazing. Apart from the fantastic art style, there’s decent voice acting and outstanding animations. The static cutscenes are a joy to watch, and even in a budget device, the game looks and runs perfectly.
Overall, Teppen is a CCG worth investing in. Though it has a lot of gameplay mechanics to take note of, it helps you learn quickly and lets you dive into the game fairly quickly. In any case, give it a shot and enjoy using Hadoken or Megaman’s cannon on Wesker and the Rathalos. Teppen Resumen
